HEC Law GAT 2023: Registration and Eligibility Criteria
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced the schedule of the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) 2023. The test will be held on August 13, 2023, and is compulsory for all LLB graduates who wish to seek Bar Council Registration.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for the Law-GAT 2023, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Have passed Bachelor’s degree in Law from a university recognized by HEC and PBC.
- Be a Pakistani citizen.
- Have a valid CNIC.
How to Register
To register for the Law-GAT 2023, candidates can follow these steps:
- Visit the HEC website at https://www.hec.gov.pk/english/pages/home.aspx
- Click on the “Law Graduate Assessment Test” link.
- Click on the “Register Online” button.
- Fill out the online application form and submit it.
- Pay the test fee of Rs. 3,000/- via 1Link 1Bill invoice.
- Print out the confirmation slip and bring it along with your CNIC on the day of the test.

Test Date and Time
The Law-GAT 2023 will be held on August 13, 2023, at 10:00 AM.
Test Format
The Law-GAT 2023 will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering the following topics:
- Legal Reasoning
- Legal Knowledge
- Legal Writing
- Legal Research
Passing Score
A candidate must score at least 50% in the Law-GAT 2023 in order to pass.
Other Requirements
In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria, candidates must also meet the following requirements in order to be eligible to practice law in Pakistan:
- Have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Law from a university recognized by HEC and PBC.
- Have passed the Law-GAT 2023.
- Be a member of the Pakistan Bar Council.
